Welcome New Workforce Director Keith Deveraux

Keith DeverauxThe High Country Council of Governments has selected Keith Deveraux to lead workforce development initiatives and programs in its seven (7) county area.  As Workforce Development Director, he will be responsible for over $1 million in funding provided to the High Country Local Area of Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Mitchell, Watauga, Wilkes, and Yancey counties in northwestern North Carolina under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).

In addition to overseeing the appropriate use of funds, Deveraux will assist the High Country Workforce Development Board (HCWDB) with implementing plans to further the mission and goals of the board.

Sallie Woodring, HCWDB Chair, said, “The Workforce Development Board is very pleased to welcome Keith into his new role, and we are very excited to work closely with him to develop a competent and skilled workforce in the High Country of North Carolina.”

A native of North Wilkesboro, Deveraux received his Master’s Degree in Political Science from Appalachian State University.  He previously served for nine (9) years as the Director of the North Wilkesboro Housing Authority, and most recently he served as an Apprenticeship Coordinator and Training Consultant with the NC Department of Commerce.  In addition, he has also served as an Employment Consultant with the NC Division of Workforce Solutions at the NCWorks Career Center in Boone, NC.

Deveraux will begin his new role on Tuesday, July 5th.  The staff and membership of the HCWDB and HCCOG look forward to working with him and benefiting from his vast background of public service in northwest North Carolina.
